**Notice: Taste/Odor Concerns in Harrodsburg**

Dear Water Customers,

If you are noticing a taste and/or odor concern with your water, we would like to sincerely apologize for this issue and inconvenience, and ask for your patience as we resolve this matter.  Please note there is not a health hazard and you do not need to boil your water. In the event of a boil water advisory, you will be notified within 24 hours.

We will continue to improve upon approved treatment processes in coordination with the KY Division of Water and our chemist, to include the addition of a chemical designed to target these concerns. We are also in the process of flushing throughout the system to remove water with these issues. We anticipate that the water quality will be improved within a few days. 

Over the last several weeks of drought and heat, the Kentucky River conditions have caused considerable treatment challenges to our utility and many others across the state. In this case, taste and odor issues are the result of compounds occurring from low flow, high temperature, and excess nutrients and dissolved oxygen in the source water. The resulting compounds are derived from algae and bacteria that when treated, give off gasses that form taste and odors in the distribution system.

As your provider we are making every effort to resolve these issues with treatment and flushing in a timely matter. Our system continues to maintain compliance with the Division of Water and works diligently to maintain customer service and water quality. Thank you again for your continued support.
