Geographic Information Systems
GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems. In its simplest form, it is the production of highly customizable area accurate maps. However, these maps are linked to databases, which can be changed quickly, allowing the maps to be updated. much of the data is collected by using GPS (Global Positioning System) and aerial photography. The data constantly changes due to new roads, utilities, subdivisions, etc. being added.
Currently, the GIS department offers a wide variety of information for the city, with more data to be added in the future. Some examples of the data that is currently available are:
Water/Sanitary Sewer Lines
